Commended RPS Visual Art Exhibition 2014

Firstly, this won a PAGB Ribbon at the Kent County Photographic Association Annual Exhibition 2010.

The inspiration for the photograph came from seeing an image by Rene Magritte of the same name. I enjoyed the anonymity of the view from the back and the incongruity of the title, implying dressed for an occasion, yet undressed.

Thus, I sought to create the idea in my own photography, essentially a photomontage of the silhouette-like figure, in the evening light, framed in a classical environment.

A strong symmetrical composition was created by placing the figure centrally, within the columns*; however, placing the moon to one side introduced a degree of asymmetry.
(*barely recognisable is the De La Warr bandstand at Bexhill)

I hope that the themes of anonymity and surreality are ones that the viewer sees as a story for their own interpretation.
